About Me

Katie Dwyer is a Japanese American children’s book illustrator and writer, born and raised in sunny California and transplanted to the beautiful Asheville, North Carolina. Born with a love for creating, Katie would spend her childhood drawing and cutting paper dolls, painting pictures, and making dolls out of yarn. She would even host gallery openings in her room, complete with ribbon cutting ceremony, where she would sell her drawings for 25 cents to her family.

Katie combines traditional and digital elements in her illustrations. She is drawn to limited color palettes and using color to evoke emotion and build beautiful worlds for her characters. She has illustrated multiple picture books, including the award-winning, “The Not-So-Friendly-Friend.”

When she isn’t drawing or writing, Katie can be found chasing after her three little boys, drinking a lot of iced matcha lattes (with oat milk, obviously), reading, watching movies, and eating good food with her partner. She has a passion for encouraging imagination in kids, spreading kindness, and inspiring a love for reading and art with her whimsical illustrations.
